The department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Jal Shakti organised an event in New Delhi on the occasion of World Toilet Day. The event was presided by Union Minister Shri D V Sadananda Gowda, Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Shri Rattan Lal Kataria, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, who conferred a special award to Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) for its contribution to the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission and efforts towards effective plastic waste management.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Shri D V Sadananda Gowda congratulated all the awardees for their commendable work in improving cleanliness and sanitation facilities. He reiterated the vision of the Prime Minister which created a people’s movement for a Swachh Bharat (Clean India) – a tribute to the father of the nation.
Union Minister Shri Rattan Lal Kataria applauded the efforts of all stakeholders associated with the Swachh Bharat Mission, making it the world’s largest behaviour change program.
About Swachh Bharat Mission:
To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put a focus on sanitation, the Prime Minister of India launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2nd 2014. The Mission Coordinator for SBM is Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jalshakti with two Sub-Missions, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). Together, they aim to achieve Swachh Bharat by 2019, as a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary.
